THE HEART OF THE CENTER

Since 1966, the innovative non-profit Champlain Senior Center has provided a rich array of nutritional, educational, health, social and recreational programs and opportunities to Chittenden County residents age 60 and better. We also serve as a resource for older adults, their families, and community members seeking information about aging and related services.

Our philosophy is simple: we believe that involved, productive seniors live longer, happier lives.

That's why we're there:

  • For people on tight budgets, who want to grow healthy and stay that way
  • For people who enjoy sharing tasty mid-day meals in good company
  • For active, energetic folks who want to sign up for a class...and those who prefer to just relax and enjoy a chat
  • For people to use five days each week
  • For those who need a ride to and from the Center
  • For dozens of services from flu shots and Medicare/Medicaid paperwork help, to stimulating lectures, T'ai Chi, and even foot care!

Our sunny, plant-filled facility in the newly built McClure MultiGenerational Center is a gathering place for elders. There's a piano in the comfortable lounge; a large, attractive dining room; and plenty of room to socialize or pursue quiet activities.

"Caring, open, accessible, positive"

Successful aging is a process, built on the choices we make each day. By offering a menu of things to do, experiment with, learn about and enjoy, we're helping people add life to their years - in the ways that fit each one best.

The McClure MultiGenerational Center

Open in 1999, this 10,000 square foot building on North Winooski Avenue in Burlington has become a model for the entire country. The reason: it houses the Champlain Senior Center in one wing and the licensed, accredited Burlington Children's Space in the other.

Why put "seniors" and "juniors" under one roof?

  • The energy and enthusiasm of children can inspire and delight elders
  • Experienced older people make great tutors for children, and offer wisdom to younger parents
  • In an age when grandparents and grandchildren often live far away from each other, it's a great way to maintain this vital connection between the generations
  • Everyone benefits from the richness of age-integrated programming

Instant "grand-kid's"? Sure...but only when it's appropriate. The Senior Center and the Children's Space are separate facilities, with times and places to come together, and to remain apart.
